brüningnoon

I've spent my afternoon at th Herbert Brün House a.k.a. th Parkhouse, where I sometimes work to digitize old reel-to-reel recordings in th collection of Herbert Brün, a founding thinker of th School for Designing a Society. I sit amidst not only his experimental music compositions (temporarily trapped in analog), but also his words. On th shelf sit several books that he wrote, which th Herbert Brün Society (my teachers & friends) disseminate.

As I work, I sneak little peeks into his book my words and where i want them; so, while I have temporary access to this little wonder, let me take a moment (off th clock, don't worry) to share some bits w/ you. I haven't gotten too far into it, but I do already have favorite bits:

2

I consider words innocent until proven guilty. Once they are proven guilty, however, I consider their meaning to be irredeemable. Thus words form the limits of personal freedom. While I may be free to express my thoughts in a free society, the words at my disposal may not be free at all. Ignorance of this fact is what turns the thoughts of free people into the thoughts of slaves.

7

As long as we do not claim the knowledge of absolute truth, and while believers can not but make liars, listeners make storytellers tell stories and make composers compose music.
And they know it.

8

All I am is not objective.
All I am is said by an observer.
I am said observer's all.
My observer: is it observing me
or is it I observing
or is it I observing me
and does it say what it observed
or am I my observer's language?

15

Belief turns everything into lies, even the truth itself.

Many people intend to lie occasionally. However, even the best intentions and the finest diction can not turn a statement into a lie unless a believer can be found. No believers - no liars. And the inverse, astonishingly, also says what I want it to say.

20

Instead of
finding ourselves
in yesterday's future we
find ourselves in tomorrow's
past.
We cannot afford what
we want today
because of
those who can't buy it and
therefore don't want it.
What is it?

21

Today's daily discourse is the punishment for our obedience to our society's daily orders.

30

The law which you don't break will break you.
The language which you don't speak will speak you.

Th book contains a total of 387 bits. I look forward to more bafflement.

Truth

I love websites like this. From truthism.com:

When it comes to this kind of information (i.e., fringe subjects), you atheists, scientists, and skeptics all of a sudden start claiming that you need "irrefutable proof" in order to believe it. OK, fine. Then I'll turn the tables on you: Go and prove that the leaders of this world are in fact human. Oh, that's right, YOU CAN'T! Hell, you wouldn't even be able to prove who the actual leaders are in the first place.

So, in the same breath that you say, "Oh my gosh, I went to this one stupid website and the guy said that aliens rule the world," you should also say, "Oh my gosh, I believe that humans rule the world, even though I have absolutely no proof for my belief." As you can see, one cannot just posit that humans rule the world. Where's the proof??? Think about it for a second: Right now, assume that aliens do in fact rule the world; then, combine this with the fact that people automatically assume that humans rule the world. Now, what do you have: The perfect recipe for deception! But, this concept of aliens secretly ruling the world is not just a theoretical possibility, it also happens to be the actual truth! And, this is no coincidence--the Reptilians intentionally designed society to be this very way. That is, society was designed so that no one would ever question the so-called "basic truths."

In other not-yet news, I'd like to form an Agnostic Temple & Monastery, a Cult of Not Knowing. Who wants in?

16 & 87

I selected two chapters from Crowley's Book of Lies as today's daily divination: 16 & 87. I have no further explanation to offer.

16

THE STAG-BEETLE

Death implies change and individuality if thou be
THAT which hath no person, which is beyond the
changing, even beyond changelessness, what hast
thou to do with death?
The bird of individuality is ecstasy; so also is its
death.
In love the individuality is slain; who loves not love?
Love death therefore, and long eagerly for it.
Die Daily.

MANDARIN-MEALS

There is a dish of sharks' fins and of sea-slug, well set
in birds' nests...oh!
Also there is a souffle most exquisite of Chow-Chow.
These did I devise.
But I have never tasted anything to match the

(?)

which she gave me before She went away.

Note: In th book, a sigil appears in place of (?).

Wedpud

I did a bibliomantic divination using James Joyce's Finnegans Wake this afternoon on th train. Basically, that means I pointed to a random line on a random page & made note of it to see what advice it offers. I got th following, from page 572:

Live well! Iniivdluaritzas! Tone!

Perhaps it represents a call to enjoy myself & pay attention to sound & color.

[This I set out to do as I wandered in wonder around th Shedd Aquarium today. If you want to experience pure absurd beauty, watch an octopus move from point A to point B; what a ridiculously beautiful world, this!]

As for Iniivdluaritzas! who knows? I came up with an anagram:

vain lizard suit I!

Joyce may not have meant that, but I do like it.

This may represent th beginning of a larger project. I've got lots of little divination systems that amuse me. I tentatively mapped six of them to th six sides of a die for potential use:

1 .. Deck of Lies

[Th Book of Lies by Aleister Crowley consists of 93 chapters & their commentaries; I created a deck of 93 cards allowing me to select from th chapters at random.]

2 .. I Ching
3 .. Tarot
4 .. 8 colors of magick

[Peter Carroll proposes an 8-dimensional model of various "magicks" - I'd roll a D8 to pick one magick to focus on for that day: pure, war, thinking, sex, ego, love, wealth, death.]

5 .. Finnegan's Wake
6 .. 6 Reality Tunnels

[Another Peter Carroll idea. See MUSICK.]

I won't adhere to this too strictly; I'll allow for spontenaity & probably change this mapping as I go. In fact, I have already found that combining th Deck of Lies with th 8 magicks works quite well, so I may combine those on th map & put something else on it. I welcome suggestions.

[I may eventually add Ifa, an African system of 256 stories related to Santeria & Voudou, to th mix, when I aquire this book.]

I do all this to disorder my personal universe & create new pathways for spontaneous growth & other pretentious-sounding twaddle. Also for something to do. Don't call me superstitious; I remain agnostic about everything everywhere.

[Everything is stupid & meaningless, & I fucking love it!]

I hope you've had a ludicrous 23rd of May (Slave Time)!
Much love to all,

Crowley's Book of Lies

Yough.

I just discovered that a book I've recently become semi to somewhat obsessed with, Aleister Crowley's Book of Lies can be read in its perplexing entirety at sacred-texts.com/oto/lib333.htm.
